I think that maybe there are some things that in this modern world are.... shall we say less needed. Many of those qualities we associate with formal affairs when they just aren't necessary or practical in the "every-day" life. Perhaps with the coming of the "women's movement" and their desire for "equal treatment" those qualities became less and less desirable. And remember, for those about to jump me like a bandit, the women's movement also opened many doors for women to be greater educated.
Well. I wouldn't say I'm "elegant" I'm just weird and eccentric, I guess. Elegance makes me think of Audrey Hepburn, I'm not like her. Trust me Dodger, you DON'T live in a house of elegant women, well you do, but we only show it when we want to, and that's not ALL the time!
I woudl have to say "What girls are you looking at?" I would argue that SOME girls do still retain this elegance, and beauty in movement, and appearance. I'll wager any PB girl against that definition anyday.
With whom are you trying to earn brownie points, Adam? Hmm? To answer your question, I meant girls in general. So, no one should be offended as if I was pointing them out or anything.
Yes, some girls still do possess elegance, but the vast majority have lost it. Or rather, never really had it. I don't think it's their fault. Our society just doesn't think it's very important anymore, and therefore no one makes an effort to aquire or pass on the trait. Perhaps Cal-el is right and it does have something to do with the Women's Lib movement. Maybe the women were trying so hard to be "one of the guys" that that whole elegance thing got lost. Pity.
Well, my hopes of having all those grandchildren you promised me have just been dashed to smithereens...Insulting the fairer sex will get you nowhere, my dear. "No person ever rose up from the rubble of criticism to become a better person." I understand your point, but perhaps it could have been put in a more diplomatic manner...
Apparently this post has achieved its end, which was to stir up the hornet's nest. Allow me to say once again that I did not mean this an insult anyone, but merely as an observation on the state of females IN GENERAL. That is, the *majority* of girls these days do not posess the qualities posted IN THE DEGREE that once was the norm. Adam has a point: most PB girls and homeschooled ones as well, do have a greater amount of elegance than others, and this is becaused they are interested in obtaining the trait. The girls in my circle of friends are much more elegant than the rest. The question posed in the post came from the observation of *other* girls.
So there. I hope that assuages any hurt feelings. Sheesh...
I know what Graham was attempting to communicate in this post... and I whole heartedly agree!! The funny thing to me is women (and by women I mean the "worldly” women etc.) strive to be equal with men, are not satisfied being treated like women and now complain that men are not gentlemen. (Gallantry is lost as well, to society in general. As to not cause any annoyance I exclude the majority of the guys I know.)
This non-elegant and non-gallantry oppression is unbearable! We must needs succeed from this "Union"!! Winston County was never reconquered.... so technically... they are still an independant nation! WE CAN DO IT TOO!! or we can always go "The Village" route. I like the village route better.
i'm not sure yet, but i think i may be offended. although it is probably true that not many people have ever described me as elegant, i certainly know many elegant ladies. for example, the Beehive is brimming with elegant women. your own mother. aunt melinda, beth, and rebecca. i think maybe what you really mean is that you wish you could find a girl mature beyond her years, because it seems to me that that is what brings the aura of elegance.
I say that the reason there is so much loss of elegance and gallantry, is that this society and culture is all about being casual and inactive. The thing you will hear the most in this society is, "I dont care!!!". There is the problem. I do know quite a few elegant women, though. I have also seen a great many un-elegant women. So, let the revolution flame in the south (and this time we can say that it is a revolution)!

God forbid the day when women practicing refinement, grace, and beauty in manners is no longer necessary. It has already become unappreciated.
As the resident of a household full of very elegant women, you have just endangered your existence with that remark...

This post has offended me...I shall say no more.

Thank you Adam.

Dodger, you dug the grave, lie in it, you're already dead. Stop fighting just lay down and shut the door.

We must revolutionize society!!!!!!!! We shall change this world into an international union of PB domination!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think we should try and get lots of comments, right now lets shoot for 25.
Stupid Dodger! (of course we have to insult him also)
