I'm in a relationship with a man who is 750 miles away. There are lots of imperfections in each of us. We don't love each other any less, we love each other all the more. Long distance relationships just mean alot more work and patience.
I believe that distance does allot slots for imperfections to come to light. I do believe that many of those imperfections are not seen or are consciously overlooked during the time the two of you are together because you greatly cherish that together time. However, it is during the separation that allows one the opportunity to analyze every individual scene and remark that the significant other made and brings to the fore-front those imperfections.
The question you ask yourself is.... is this something I can live with on a daily basis... do the reasons I am attracted to their CHARACTER and PERSONALITY outweigh these imperfections I now see. If yes... continue forward growing and nurturing the relationship. If you're not sure that they do outweigh... it's time to reevaluate.
Homeboy is VERY much onto something with the trust. In ANY relationship... if you don't have near perfect trust, you either don't have a meaningful relationship or you shouldn't be in the relationship at that time.
I would have to say that long distance relationships HIDE imperfections instead of the original quote. And trust is very important...but you can't trust someone completely unless you know them very very well, and I think that a long distance relationship prevents that. Because really it's not trust if you don't know, its more chance, or hope.
And you can't really know a person unless you get to watch them in their 'Natural Habitat'. Cal-el made a good point. When you do get together it isn't the real you. So I do think that you can't really know or trust someone through a long distance relationship.
But it's not quite so black and white as that... a relationship conducted across 4 states can be much deeper and truer than one between people who live close by, depending on whether the Lord is in it or not.
It's hard, not to mention fruitless, to superimpose absolutes on areas so subject to the workings of Providence. If a relationship is right, meaning, if it's the Lord's will and is being carried out prayerfully by two people who are commited to Him and each other unselfishly, there isn't much that can stand in its way.

I think it depends on the situation...so I lean either way.
I think it depends on whether it depends or not.
